Elisabeth Sladen - Autobiography

The autobiography of Elisabeth Sladen, delayed after her untimely passing, should be released in November. Editor Sam Harrison has this to say about Elisabeth.

I remember my first meeting with Elisabeth – the hilarious and eye-opening stories she had to tell and my feeling of elation that she wanted to turn them into a book. Having grown up watching her as Sarah Jane Smith it was a personal dream come true. She was a fantastic person to work with – fun but utterly professional – and it’s incredibly sad that she’s no longer with us. I’m glad she had a chance to share some of her memories in this book. I hope it will make a fitting tribute to a great actress and a wonderful woman.

Wednesday Update

What a sad day for fandom in general, with the loss of Elisabeth Sladen. Rumours are saying the BBC are going to pay tribute this Saturday, that will be a fitting touch to one of the much loved companions of the series.

The news of Ms.Sladen's passing has made the news and papers everywhere, a testament to her portrayal, working with a plethora of Doctors, We have posted tributes from three of the Doctors below.

Goodbye Sarah Jane.

Tom Baker's Tribute to Lis Sladen

Sarah Jane dead? No, impossible! Impossible. Only last week I agreed to do six new audio adventures with her for Big Finish Productions. She can't be dead. But she is: she died yesterday morning. Cancer. I had no idea she was ill; she was so private, never wanted any fuss, and now, gone. A terrible blow to her friends and a shattering blow for all those fans of the programme whose lives were touched every Saturday evening by her lovely heroic character, Sarah-Jane Smith. ... Those sweet memories of happy days with Lis Sladen, the lovely, witty, kind and so talented Lis Sladen. I am consoled by the memories. I was there, I knew her, she was good to me and I shall always be grateful, and I shall miss her.

David Tennant's Tribute

I just can't believe that Lis is gone. She seemed invincible. The same woman who enchanted my childhood, enchanted my time on Doctor Who and enchanted generations who have watched her and fallen in love with her – just like I did. I feel very honoured to have shared a TARDIS with Sarah Jane Smith, and I feel very lucky to have shared some time with Lis Sladen. She was extraordinary.

Matt Smith's Tribute

What struck me about Lis was her grace. She welcomed me, educated me, and delighted me with her tales and adventures on Doctor Who. And she also seemed to have a quality of youth that not many people retain as they go through life. Her grace and kindness will stay with me because she had such qualities in abundance and shared them freely. I will miss her, as will the world of Doctor Who and all the Doctors that had the good pleasure to work with Lis Sladen and travel the universe with Sarah Jane.

Elisabeth Sladen 1948 - 2011

It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of well loved actress Elisabeth Sladen, best known for her role as journalist Sarah Jane Smith, who passed away on 19th April, after battling cancer. Having met her once at a convention, she was one of the friendliest people to talk to, a great loss to fandom. Our thoughts go out to her family. An official statement has been released on the BBC Doctor Who site and can be read here.

BB Worldwide have put together a playlist on their youtube channel, showing some of Sarah Jane's finest moments.
