Old Enemies Return

As you can see the Cybermen are back (not so closely guarded secret for the last couple of months). The more observant of you will notice from the pic, that the Cybus logo is removed. It is rumoured that the Cybermen will appear in the 2nd half of the series this autumn, but who knows whats in store this year. Unfortunately we are not getting a Saturday and Sunday broadcast for the opening two parter The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon. Have put a transmission schedule onto our website, baring any breaks the first half of the series should finish on 4th June. Also created a section for the recently released Pics from the BBC. No detailed news on Doctor Who confidential for this year yet, but will bring it to you, as soon as possible.

Start Time Confirmed

It has been confirmed by the Radio Times that the start date for The Impossible Astronaut will be 6pm Saturday 23rd April. This is one of the earliest times the programme has started in recent years.

Doctor Who Confidential will be at 7pm as BBC3 starts broadcasting. This weeks Radio Times (16-22) contains an interview with Steven Moffat, you can read it here. Also featured in the Radio Times is Steven's preview to the first seven stories of series 6 and an interview with Matt Smith

Tuesday Update

Last night saw the press screening of the first episode of series 6 at Olympia. Posted below are some of the comments from journalists, who attend last night.

Have given our Doctor Who website a facelift ready for the new series and we're almost ready to unleash another mini site to the net.

Previews for the opening two parter can be found in the preview section of the sidebar.

The Impossible Astronaut - Reaction

Tom Phillips from the Metro said: Make no mistake, this isn’t easy, switch-your-faculties-off entertainment - it’s big, dark, impressively ambitious, dazzlingly executed entertainment that demands and repays your full attention. (It also makes very few concessions to those who didn't see the last series, and absolutely none to the fact that it's supposed to be a kid's show - a few children at the screening did seem a little left behind by some of the script's wilder curve-balls, although it didn't dampen their enthusiasm in the slightest.)And if you thought last season’s finale was stuffed full of mind-bending wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey shenanigans... just wait. This makes Inception seem about as straightforward as The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

The Impossible Astronaut - Reaction

Patrick Mulkern from the Radio Times said: We sat pinned to our seats for 90 minutes or so of electrifying, bamboozling television, which might just be also the most unsettling since the series came back in 2005. I certainly don't think my nearly-four-year-old niece, who's obsessed with Amy Pond but still creeped out by last year's relatively tame Prisoner Zero, will last long into episode one before quailing behind a cushion. ... The chills are leavened with laughs (the Doctor flits through history, upstages a timeless comedy duo, and dubs his chums "the Legs, the Nose and Mrs Robinson"). River makes two spectacular entrances. There's a new use for dwarf star alloy (conceived 30 years ago in Warriors' Gate, it enchained one of The Family of Blood in 2007). And the number 1,103 may be significant. Moffat ladles mystery upon mystery, so that by the end we're gagging for answers. The second instalment concludes with a mouthwatering cliffhanger.

The Impossible Astronaut - Reaction

John Blunkett from the Guardian said: In truth the opening episode of the two-parter took a while to warm up, but a fiendishly complicated plot – it is probably not a spoiler to suggest it involves time-travelling – required no end of exposition. But by the end of the first episode it had drawn gasps and applause in almost equal measure from a preview audience at London's Olympia on Monday.Preaching to the converted in most part, no doubt, but this was scary stuff – almost as unnerving as those kids who kept asking for their mummy and the darkest series opener showrunner Steven Moffat could remember. And not a big-name celebrity guest star in sight.

Monday update

This months Doctor Who Magazine has four different collector covers issue 433 out this Thursday.
Yet another story title has been released. The title for Episode 7 is A Good Man goes to war.

As I post this the press screening of epsiode One - The Impossible Astronaut is taking place in London, with the main cast present, so beware of spoilers in tomorrows papers.

Weekend Update

The BBC have released this new publicity image for the Impossible Astronaut

Another piece of cast news for the Richard Senior directed block. Nina Toussaint-White’s CV says she is playing the part of Mels. Better known for her parts in Eastenders and Casualty, her part will be in either episode 8 or 13

Start Date Confirmed

The Impossible Astronaut will premiere in Britain on April 23rd, this has been confirmed by the BBC.

The official Doctor Who site has made the following statement.

We'll be launching the Prequel to the series' opening two-parter very soon. It's an eerie sequence written by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who's Lead Writer, Executive Producer and writer of the opening story) that sets the scene in scary and mysterious style.
It introduces us to the world the Doctor will collide with in the next adventure and watch carefully... was that the new monster..?The first prequel stars Stuart Milligan and introduces us to story strands that will bind the Doctor - and enthral his audience - throughout the weeks ahead. We'll bring you more details soon, but be warned, it's a scary one...

The press screening for Episode One is apparently April 4th.
